A Labradoodle named Oscar is a hero today. The dog was able to alert his owner to a raging fire across the street from his own home at Happy Valley in Oregon on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was burning in the neighbor's mini-van and licking at the garage. Oscar seemed to sense that something wasn't right and he barked continually until his owner took notice.
When Oscar's owner looked out the same window that was preoccupying her dog's attention, she saw the fire and quickly dialed 911.
Oscar not only saved the home from burning down, but he may have also saved an occupant in the home. That individual was treated for respiratory problems and taken to a nearby hospital.
Steve McAdoo, a spokesman for the Clackamas fire department acknowledged the dog's part in saving this home - he noted that many fires go un-noticed while people are away during the day.
Thankfully Oscar barked and his owner looked - the fire department responded quickly and was able to extinguish the flames before the house was destroyed. The fire did ruin the mini-van and scorch the garage doors, but the occupant in the home survived, as did the remainder of the house.
Good dog Oscar!
