Loving gentle giant’ Tiny, who was ten, has passed on the title of top dog to Samson, the great dane-Newfoundland cross.
Tiny weighed 105 kg (16st 7lb), had his own room in owner lain Newby’s home and enjoyed two 1 kg (2lb) portions of food a day. “He was a fantastic dog and we all have so many good memories of him,” said Mr Newby, 44, of Great Wakering in Essex. “We had to give him his own sofa to sleep on because he was so big and clumsy.”
Britain’s mightiest mutt is now Samson, who weighs about 124 kg (19st 10lb) and is 2m (6ft 6in) on his hind legs.
Owner Julie Woods, of Boston in Lincolnshire, said : “He cost more than 60 pounds to feed each month…but we absolutely adore him.”
