Meet the cleanest pup on the Flats. Brave little Speckles survived a few minutes in a washing machine after his owner bundled him in with the laundry by mistake.
Pam Fortune said she didn’t see Speckles among the washing. The 53-year-old woman realised minutes late that the little pit bull was being spun around with the washing.
“I was busy with the colours and didn’t notice that Speckles was wrapped in the clothes until my husband asked me where Speckles was,” she said.
“I looked around the house and then heard him howling in the machine,” said Pam.
“I opened it and he was still being spun around.” She immidiately pulled the dog from the machine and checked if he was okay. Pam said even though the puppy looked fine, he was coughing a bit after swallowing water. “He is a bit shaken but he coughed – I think it’s because of the water he was trapped in,” she said.
Since the mix-up on Thursday (14 October 2010) Speckles keeps his distance from the washing machine. The Vrygrond woman said she feared the worst after having recently lost another pet. “I had five dogs but one was taken by a friend of mine and he sold it off,” she said.
“He was a Jack Russell, very active and he used to play with a soccer ball. When I saw Speckles in the washing machine, I thought I had lost him also. I’m still heartbroken about it”
“I am left with four dogs and they are likely my children. It was an honest mistake…and I’m happy he survived.”
